About the Artist

Joanne has had a passion for art since she was old enough to hold a crayon. Her love for art led her to study Fine Arts at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst and then to Los Angeles to work in animation. Warner Brothers Feature Animation picked her up for their first internship and she was then hired for the animation division. Joanne worked on films such as Space Jam, Iron Giant and The Tigger Movie.

After 10 years in Los Angeles Joanne returned home to Boston to start her own business hand painting custom children’s murals. She has painted murals and wall art for hundreds of commercial, healthcare and residential children’s venues.

Some of her work can be seen at My Gyms, Bosse Sports, L’Attitude Gallery, the Hanover Mall Play Area, Cohassett Pediatric Office, Prevites Marketplace and Georgios in Brockton. Health care commissions consist of inpatient and
outpatient locations at Children’s Hospital throughout the Boston area; UMASS Memorial Medical Center, Worcester; and East Boston Neighborhood Health Center.

Joanne has expanded her business, Once Upon A Painted Wall, to include prints of her work on metal and large scale removable wall art. She still loves to change the whole look of a room by painting custom murals. “The best part of my job is seeing the excitement on a child’s face after giving them the room of their dreams!” She hopes to license her artwork and illustrate her first book in the near future!
